The parade made it's debut on June 17,1972 as the Main Street Electrical Parade across the plaza in Disneyland.
It ran for 24 years, with a two year break in 1975-76 by a special America on Parade celebration to commemorate the Bicentenial and again in 1983-84 with Flights of Fantasy parade to coincide with the Summer Olympics.
It made it's way to Paradise Bay in 2001, the help spark attendance at the new California Adventure park.
It was the brainchild of Robert Jani, for years Disneyland's director of entertainment.
His inspiration was a display that had helped inaugurate Walt Disney World in 1971 with electrified scenes towed across Bay Lake. |
