Previously, the Earful Tower was the icon of this park but for the 100 Years of Magic celebration in 2001, the hat was constructed and became the icon of the park.

During the celebration interactive kiosks were installed underneath where guests could learn about Walt Disney's life. When the celebration was over in 2002, the kiosks were converted into a gift and pin shop.

The giant hat sits in front of The Great Movie Ride and blocks most of the ride's facade, The Chinese Theater. This is also a popular place for many character greetings.
