President of the Santa Fe Railway from 1957-1966. He was instrumental in aiding Walt Disney in getting this engine, which had been in the possession of a scrap dealer at the time.

The Disneyland Railroad was originally known as the Santa Fe & Disneyland Railroad. The engine was named for Ernest S. Marsh who was president of Santa Fe Railroad at the time the engine was added to Disneyland.

In a break with tradition, this locomotive was named after legendary Disney animator, Imagineer and railroad enthusiast Ward Kimball, who actively shared Walt Disney's love of trains and railroading.
