Look for a pair of skeletons playing a “deadlocked” game of chess at crew’s quarters. Chess pieces were intentionally arranged so that neither one can win the game.

When it opened in 1967, Pirates of the Caribbean used real human skeletons as props. Because the Imagineers felt that the faux skeletons of the period were just too unconvincing, the grotto sequence originally featured real human remains obtained from the UCLA Medical Center. The skeletons were later returned and given a proper burial.

The ship attacking the fort is known as the Wicked Wench and the fort & town are called El Tesoro.

The pirate ship now has cannon blast that shoots water out of a hole that is smaller than the diamater of a hair at 1000 psi, causing the water to condense like fog, called the MeeFog effect.

Amount of water used throughout the attraction: 750,000 gallons
