Island Supply Company in Adventureland is a tropically themed surf store, featuring a reasonably good assortment of surfing clothing and accessories. Look for brands like QuickSilver, O'Neill, Rosy, Roxy, Billabong and Element. Other island needs include hand carved wooden animal statues, bowls, trinket boxes and storage containers.

It also features grass skirts, sun glasses, flip flops, island apparel, leis and pith helmets.

Located across from the Swiss Family Treehouse, the Island Supply Company is a store that carries men’s and women’s designer clothing, sunglasses, surf gear, island apparel, and more. In and of itself, this store may not seem very interesting, but the Island Supply Company has an interesting history that many guests at Walt Disney World aren’t aware of.

When the Magic Kingdom opened on October 1, 1971, the retail store did not exist as it does today.  Instead this space was filled by a video arcade called the Safari Club. Most guests, including myself, have probably never heard of the Safari Club because it was the first attraction at Walt Disney World to be replaced, closing in the spring of 1972, less than a year after the Magic Kingdom’s opening. The arcade was home to approximately 24 games, most of which were designed for a single player. Supposedly, the Safari Club was closed because the folks at the Magic Kingdom wanted to have a shop near the Swiss Family Treehouse exit, as well as because the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade and Main Street’s Penny Arcade met whatever demand existed for in-park arcades.

After the arcade closed in 1972, the facility re-opened later that year as a merchandise location called Colonel Hathi’s Safari Club.  For those who are fans of Disney animated films, you’ll recognize that the store took its name from the elephant in the 1967 film "The Jungle Book". Colonel Hathi’s remained in operation until 1990 when the store closed to become what we now know as the Island Supply Company.
